NWS Balloon Launch

NWS Balloon Launch

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Castillo watches as a weather balloon inflates on Friday, May 20, 2016, in Brownsville, Texas. Every 12 hours, NWS stations across the country release balloons carrying sensor packs to measure variables in the atmosphere. This data augments a vast amount of technology used to predict the weather. (Jason Hoekema/The Brownsville Herald)
